If you’ve explored my work, you may have noticed that I use both fine silver and sterling silver throughout my designs. This isn’t accidental or interchangeable — it’s a very intentional balance between beauty and durability.
What is Fine Silver?
Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver.
It has a soft, almost glowing quality to it — brighter and more luminous than sterling silver. Because it doesn’t contain other metals, it also resists tarnishing more naturally.
But what I love most about fine silver is how it captures detail.
When I’m working with natural elements I’ve foraged — tiny flowers, delicate leaves, bits of texture from the earth — fine silver allows me to preserve those details in a way that feels incredibly true to the original. Every vein, every edge, every organic imperfection can be held onto.
It’s the closest thing to freezing a moment in nature.
However, that purity also makes it softer.
What is Sterling Silver?
Sterling silver is made of 92.5% silver, combined with a small percentage of other metals (usually copper).
This makes it significantly stronger and more durable than fine silver.
It’s designed to withstand everyday wear — the kind of wear that comes from putting on your favorite ring daily, reaching for your necklace without a second thought, or living fully in your jewelry.
Why I Use Both
Rather than choosing one over the other, I use each metal where it serves the piece best.

Fine silver is used in my hand-fired pieces and bezel settings — the areas where detail, texture, and that soft glow matter most.

Sterling silver is used for ring shanks and necklace chains — the parts that need strength and longevity.
This combination allows each piece to be both beautiful and functional.
It’s a balance I come back to again and again:
something delicate, preserved in time… supported by something strong enough for everyday life.
